The newly constructed replica of Fort Manuel is located at Kenel, SD just 7 miles south of the North Dakota/South Dakota border. The fort which was originally constructed in 1811 by fur trader Manuel Lisa, is said to be the final resting place of Sacagawea. Sacagawea was the Shoshone guide for Lewis and Clark, who died at Fort Manuel in 1812. |
